In Deep Ship

Rare & XBOX Game Studios D&AD Submission

In Deep Ship was a group project carried out by me, and two other students. We jointly planned out and scripted the idea for the game while also separately specialising and working on various assets for the outcome. We were challenged to create a new co-operative experience, encouraging players to interact for memorable, shareable moments. Inspired by Elite, PlanetSide and Star Trek; we designed a crew adventure set underwater.

What is the game?
The game’s centred around a player-driven global economy; faction warfare; upgrading your crew’s ship and gear for exploration; with global live events around the ocean.

We produced system-maps incorporating the different levels of interaction – before user-testing the game in a tabletop RPG format. From iterating the presentation of the video, we produced an infographic trailer around the corporate theme in which our game is set.

The Games Pillars

01

Crew Adventure

With your crew of 4, explore the wide ocean, filled with sea caves, reefs, underwater cities and more.

02

Faction Territorial Warfare

Claim land across the ocean by capturing resource points, granting cheaper supplies and safer territory.

03

Upgrading Gear To Explore Deeper

The deeper down you explore, the stronger and monstrous the enemies you'll encounter will be.

04

PvP/PvE comabt

You're never safe, whether it's a leviathan from the depths or a player looking to loot your vessel.

In Deep Ship's Ocean

The entire game takes place under the ocean. Three major factions, Vega Finical, Harlond Corporation and Johnson & Payne Incorporated, have claimed ownership of land around the sea. The territory is ruled by who owns the resource point within each sector of the sea. A neutral zone can be found within the centre of the sea, where no land can be claimed. Getting there, however, requires for you to cross the Abyss, a no-mans-land that's too deep to touch the bottom.
